In its latest latest fan-centric initiative, Mahindra’s Formula E squad asked racing enthusiasts to design Nick Heidfeld’s race suit for his upcoming home race in Berlin, Germany.

To participate in the contest, fans had to download the official kit from the Driver by Design website, alter the race suit as per their wish, and upload it back on the website for approval.

Over 190 participants from 14 countries signed up for the contest, submitting over 480 designs in total.

The youngest participants were two four-year-old kids, one each from Switzerland and the UK.

Unsurprisingly, the highest number of entries came from India, with a sizeable chunk of submissions from Italy and the UK.

All entries were reviewed by Mahindra and Heidfeld personally, with 23-year-old Manek’s design - which features a double cross - emerging on top.

Manek hails from Mumbai, India and is currently pursuing Masters in Automobile Design.

As a reward for winning the contest, he will fly to Germany for the Berlin ePrix and personally hand over the race suit to Heidfeld.

The runner-up spot went to Alessandro Fiamberti from Italy, whose race suit design incorporated several stripes of red, yellow and green colour.

UK’s Thierry Courtois red-and-black theme was selected as the third best, while Diwanshu Bhutani (India) and Eliseo Alert Blay’s (Spain) entries made it inside the top-five.

The top 10 Formula E drivers of 2020-21
