The new Mahindra Formula E powertrain, known as the M2Electro, tested for the first time earlier this week.
In the hands of Bruno Senna the newly-powered Spark chassis undertook two days of testing at the Dunsfold Park (of Top Gear fame) proving ground in Surrey.
“It was a very proud moment for the entire Mahindra Racing Formula E Team,” said Mahindra team principal Dilbagh Gill. “It was very exciting to see Bruno on track and in our second generation Formula E car.
“The two days of dry testing gave us the perfect opportunity to test the car and obtain even more valuable information as we look ahead to the second season of the innovative Formula E series."
Mahindra passed the mandatory rear-end crash test at the end of May before embarking on the track test this week. The new car will go through its homologation by the FIA on July 1.
Mahindra is allocated 15 days of testing, and is expected to carry out the majority of it at Donington Park in July and August.
Chandhok confident for season two
The team's other driver Karun Chandhok has told Motorsport.com that recent changes within the Mahindra squad will pay dividends in season two of the FIA Formula E Championship.
“We are re-organising a bit in the team,” said Chandhok. “We have had some consultants [from America] come in to help us on the energy side of things [from Monaco onwards] which has changed the structure of the engineering office slightly.
“Maybe we were concentrating too much on the EV side of things and not on the battery systems so much,” he continued. “Maybe we lost our way a little on the chassis side too but now it is coming together again so we are hopeful for London.
“Don’t forget that this is Mahindra’s first foray in to four wheeled racing so Dilbagh and everyone else has learnt a lot and we can come back stronger.
“I think Battersea [the series finale] will be good for us and give us nice momentum in to season two with our new technology package.”
Chandhok and Senna are set to continue as drivers for the team in season two of the championship which will begin on October 17.
