Mexico City ePrix: Buemi quickest again in FP2
Sebastien Buemi led the way in the second practice session of the 2017 Mexico City ePrix, trimming just under a tenth of a second from his benchmark in FP1.
The reigning champion's time of 1m02.164s eclipsed closest rival Lucas di Grassi’s fastest lap by 0.111s.
Jean-Eric Vergne posted a best of 1m02.286s in his Renault-powered Techeetah entry in what transpired to be a three-way battle for the quickest time.
Nick Heidfeld was best of the rest, taking his Mahindra to fourth and narrowly edging out his fellow German Daniel Abt, but was almost 0.4s in arrears to Buemi.
The NextEV duo of Nelson Piquet and Oliver Turvey took sixth and ninth respectively, sandwiching Maro Engel (Venturi) and Antonio Felix da Costa (Andretti).
The temperature climbed between the two practice sessions to 80 degrees, as teams spent some of the session evaluating the thermal management of the cars ahead of the race.
The top 13 cars were covered by under a second, indicating a tight midfield battle for the second-ever Mexico City ePrix.
Several drivers suffered spins, including Robin Frijns (Andretti), Adam Carroll (Jaguar) and Loic Duval (Dragon).
There was a more lurid incident for Jose Maria Lopez, who glanced the wall in the final stages of the session.
Formula E debutant Esteban Gutierrez made a late session improvement to 13th position, after having initially languished at the tail end of the times.
