Beijing Formula E opener pushed back

The first round in Beijing will now take place on Saturday 24th October.

The move has been made to avoid a clash with the Annual Xiangshan Forum which is also taking place at the Olympic Park on October 16-17.

"While it is regrettable that the date of the opening race has had to be delayed by one week, we understand the logistical difficulties in staging both events at the same time," said Formula E boss Alejandro Agag.

"Together with our partners and the authorities, we therefore decided that the best course of action was to move our race by one week.

"We remain confident that despite the date change the Beijing ePrix will provide for a spectacular start to the second season of our championship."

Mexican event may still happen

Motorsport.com understands that Agag is close to confirming the complete season two calendar, which was ratified by the FIA recently.

One 'to be announced date' was issued for March 19. Initially the slot was slated for a race in Mexico City but confirmation of the event before the World Motorsport Council Meeting in July was not forthcoming.

Motorsport.com understands that the possibility of Formula E racing in Mexico City has recently been resurrected and could be confirmed later this month. The possibility of the current TBA round being brought forward a weekend to March 12 is also being discussed.

However, an event in Los Angeles is also being discussed, essentially making a double-header with the confirmed Long Beach event, which is confirmed for April 2.

An additional round in Lugano, Switzerland is expected to be improved and confirmed soon. The first international single-seater race to take place on Swiss soil since 1954 would take place on May 7, if the city can raise the necessary budget to host the event.

Agag and his staff at Formula E Holdings Ltd are also attempting to find a solution to race again at Battersea Park next summer.

The event was provisionally set for the last weekend in June, but remains in the balance after it became clear there is little flexibility in moving the date to avoid a clash with the British Grand Prix confirmed for the same weekend.

Motorsport.com broke the news last month that racing on the first weekend of July would be difficult due to a running event taking place in the park.
