Alesi, Fuoco headline Trident GP3 line-up

Italian squad Trident Racing has announced a four-car assault on the 2016 GP3 season, having signed Giuliano Alesi, Antonio Fuoco and Sandy Stuvik in addition to returnee Artur Janosz.

Trident enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2015, finishing runner-up in the teams' standings with six wins, and becomes the first squad in the series to officially expand to four cars as per new regulations.

As revealed by Motorsport.com in December, Alesi – son of ex-Formula 1 driver Jean – moves up to GP3 for his second year in cars after having finished fourth in French F4, as the line-up's only rookie driver.

Ferrari protege Fuoco, a champion in the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps series back in 2013, moves over from Carlin, having finished sixth in his debut GP3 campaign.

The Italian did two days with Trident in the post-season test at Yas Marina, finishing second in one and first in the other.

Thai racer Stuvik, the 2014 Euroformula Open champion, makes the switch from Status, having finished his first GP3 season in 17th.

In doing so, he reunites with his former EF Open teammate and title rival Janosz, who will embark on a sophomore campaign with Trident after taking 14th overall last year, with a best result of fifth.

“We will be fielding four drivers that can score great results this season,” said Trident team boss Maurizio Salvadori.

“I am extremely satisfied to announce our full line-up so early as it will enable us to anticipate and improve our preparation.

“The goal is to remain at the top of the GP3 Series in both the driver and the team standings.”
