Ocean Racing Technology puts both cars in the top 8
Ocean Racing Technology was one of the fastest teams in the GP2 Main Series on Friday afternoon during qualifying at the Valencia circuit. Indeed, the Portuguese team placed its two drivers in the top eight on the starting grid for race one on Saturday. Alvaro Parente had a good lap which will now see him line up on the third row while teammate Karun Chandhok will be positioned right behind him in eighth place.
With a good race set-up and a fast pit stop, Alvaro Parente believes that he can still aim for the podium despite the lack of overtaking opportunities of the Spanish street circuit. "Valencia is a modern street track where you have to be extremely careful as qualifying showed. It also proved that we are competitive. My aim is to make a good start and stay away from any incidents and not take any avoidable risk, but at the same time be aggressive enough to try and finish in the top 3," Parente explains.
Karun Chandhok is satisfied with being in the top ten, but the Indian driver insists that without an interruption due to an accident by one of his rivals, he could have been better placed on the grid. "It is important to start on the right foot. The session interruption and the traffic that I struggled with meant that I could not fight for the first rows," Chandhok regrets. "It can cost you dearly in the race especially if you have an average start and if there's one or two safety car interruptions, but I'm confident that I will be able to secure a good result this weekend."
After a one month break, the GP2 Main Series will get back to racing and the events will be broadcasted live on the Eurosport chain at 3:00 PM on Saturday and 9:30 AM on Sunday (U.K. Time).
