HO-PIN TUNG NINTH IN VALENCIA GP2-RACE

Ho-Pin Tung finished today's GP2race at the street circuit of Valencia in ninth place. The young Chinese had to start the race from 23rd position on the grid. Evaluating his race he said that it was a good result in a chaotic race. Qualification and the first race on Saturday were less positive for China's hope. Qualification brought him P22 and in the first race he found himself involved in a complicated crash taking him out of the race.

'I had much higher hopes for this weekend, but qualifying decided for the rest of it,' Ho-Pin explains. 'In qualifying I just wanted too much, pushed too hard. In Saturday's race I had a good start, but already in turn 3 I found myself stuck between Yamamoto and the concrete wall. Yamamoto came closer and closer and the barrier did not move. That meant end of race for both of us, moreover because somebody hit me at the back of the car.'

Things went a lot better on Sunday. 'The team did a fantastic job by repairing the heavily damaged Trident overnight and made ready to race', Ho-Pin Tung said. 'I had another of my good starts, but there was a turmoil in the first corners and I had to drive wide. But, nevertheless after the first lap I was in 13th position, so I gained ten places. I drove a steady race, the car was good, although I had little grip. I was able to push and to overtake some guys.' Ho-Pin Tung finished tenth, which later was corrected into ninth place in the official ranking, due to a time penalty Filipi got.
