GREAT PODIUM FOR GIEGO VAN DER GARDE AFTER FINISHING 2ND IN VALENCIA.

SERGIO PEREZ HIT FROM BEHIND YET AGAIN WHILE LYING IN 4TH POSITION.

The drivers of Barwa Addax Team had differing fortunes with Giedo van der Garde finishing in an impressive second place in today's short race in Valencia, while Sergio Perez , after yet another unfortunate incident, was relegated to the back of the field.

Giedo van der Garde started from fifth place on the grid after his good performance yesterday. He made a flying start and got to the first corner in third and after various attempts he managed to climb to second after a magnificent overtaking manoeuvre. Giedo pressured the leader and attacked when he could, especially in the last third of the race but this track is not the best for overtaking. In the end a certain degree of common sense prevailed and rather than take any unnecessary risks he settled for a splendid second position. It was worthy compensation for the Valencia based Barwa Addax Team and for all the supporting fans from Valencia and Spain alike.

Sergio Perez had a very negative weekend. He made a magnificent start, probably the best by any driver this season. From his 11th placed start he managed to climb up to fourth before the second corner after some spectacular overtaking. He looked to be determined to make up for yesterday's misfortunes with a magnificent result, when he was shunted from behind after yet another irresponsible and dangerous incident involving a rival, ruining any hopes he might have had. It's questionable if Valerio should have been sanctioned for his involvement in Saturday's incident, maybe his attitude today might have been different. What is clear is that Sergio Perez and Barwa Addax Team, after having dominated both the free practice and qualifying sessions, were well set up for great result at their home track. However, it wasn't to be because he was hit first by Maldonado, damaging his car when he was leading the race and then by Valsecchi, causing him to spin when he was lying second. In today's race Sergio was brutally shunted by Valerio after having climbed to fourth position. It is hardly a consolation that in two of the three incidents the race stewards have acted accordingly and have penalized the drivers involved. It would be a shame if incidents of this kind were to affect the competition in a negative way.

Despite all this, there can be no doubt that Sergio Perez has nothing to demonstrate to anyone. Those who are looking for great up and coming drivers, as this team have done, will not be merely interested in who has most points. The overall progress of the driver and team and other such circumstances are under continuous scrutiny.

Barwa Addax Team remain second overall in the constructor's championship and the drivers are both in the top five positions in the driver's rankings. Giedo van der Garde is now tied for second place and Sergio Perez holds on to 5th position in the general classification.
