SERGIO PEREZ DOMINATES QUALIFICATION IN VALENCIA.
BARWA ADDAX TEAM TAKE THE SPOILS ON THEIR HOME TRACK.
The Spanish Barwa Addax Team have given their Spanish fans another lift after both their drivers finished in the first five positions after today's qualifying session of the GP2 Europa Grand Prix. Sergio Perez clinched a brilliant pole position and Giedo van der Garde set the fifth fastest time.
Sergio Perez dominated both sessions today, having posted the fastest time in this morning's free practice session and then he went on to take a thrilling pole position in the last few laps of the qualification session. It is important to take into account that in a GP2 car, Checo set a fantastic 1.45.335 which will be interesting to compare with some of the Formula 1 times after they complete their qualifying session tomorrow afternoon.
Giedo van der Garde can also feel satisfied after his free practice session and the qualifiers. He has been among the leading times throughout and for quite a few laps he was qualified in second place. Even during the free practice in the morning he put on a good show, despite being hampered by his brakes overheating. The expert mechanics of Barwa Addax Team were quickly and efficiently able to put things right and Giedo with less laps than his rivals was still capable of posting competitive lap times.
As a result of today's success the Mexican driver picks up two more points and is closing in on the leaders in the overall driver's rankings and now is only one point behind the third placed driver, despite all the bad luck he has suffered at the beginning of the season.
The first race starts tomorrow at 15.40 hrs and will be raced over 32 laps of the Valencia Street circuit and will cover a distance of the 173 kilometers on this spectacular 5,419 meter track.
