CARROLL ENTERTAINS F1 STARS AT GP2
Great Britain's Adam Carroll had an eventful start to his GP2 campaign finishing the first race in Valencia 14th . He dropped to 21st , carved his way back up to 2nd and despite a hit and spin later, finished in impressive style for Spanish team Racing Engineering.
The race was watched by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, former F1 World champion Alan Prost, World Championship winning team boss Flavio Briatore and this year's Malaysian F1 winner, Giancarlo Fisichella. Interest is growing in the feeder series to F1 after it provided five drivers to the F1 paddock after its first year of running.
"That was the toughest race I've ever done. I made a bad start and was lucky not to stall but I worked my way back up. After the pit-stop I overtook Xandy Negrao but then felt him hit me from behind, luckily after my spin I didn't lose much ground."
The 23 year old, from Portadown, Northern Ireland had worked his way through the pack up to 2nd before pitting on lap 20. As one of the last drivers to change tyres, he emerged in 19th position and all over again he had to cut his way back through!
Team owner Alfonso de Orleans Borbon said "I've never seen someone drive with such balls. He did brilliantly and was so entertaining for everyone here." Last year's victories in Imola, Monaco and Spa earned Adam the reputation as a tough and extremely talented driver. He's confident he'll back on the podium soon.
"There's still a few things that we need to do but I'm sure we can go on from here and just improve all the time."
