Barcelona Test - Day 2
Trident Racing end positive pre-season test.
The last round of collective testing before the 2011 GP2 Mains Series season opener was completed today at Barcelona, to prepare for the first round of the year, scheduled on May 7 at Istanbul.
The test held at the Spanish venue saw Trident Racing complete the team's heavy program they scheduled before going on-track at Catalunya. The team also collected huge data that the technical staff will analyze bofore the start of the 2011 Main Series. Both Stefano Coletti and Rodolfo Gonzalez confirmed on-track the great expectations previously set, ending up with no mistakes or incidents.
“I think the general balance of this round of testing should be considered really positive for us. The start has been pretty difficult as we faced set-up issues which conditioned us throughout day 1. We understood what was the right path to follow and this morning we put to fruition the new technical decisions we took and we clocked our best laptime that was just 0.3s off the lead. And we have to consider a couple of braking errors that cost me an additional couple of tenths. We ended the test with a race simulation that provided us with some really valuable feedback. After the last few days I can look forward to the championship with confidence. It'll be tough but I'm sure that both me and the team will be able to shine on any racetrack and in any condition.”
“During the collective test at Barcelona, the tire's performance has been slightly different from what we saw in the previous rounds of the Asia Series. The hard compound eventually showed an big performance fade after a few laps, and the driving experience was quite affected by that. The race simulation test went on good and the laptimes we clocked made me quite optimistic for race day. Tire performance is still an unknown but it'll be the same for everybody, so we'll have to wait and see what will happen from the Istanbul race onwards.”
