Grip problems affecting Stefano Coletti in Barcelona
Stefano Coletti's weekend in Barcelona (Spain), theatre of the second round of the GP2 Main Series 2011, was spoiled by grip problems. The young Monegasque set the eighth best lap (1'30.974) in a particularly tight qualifying session held Saturday with four of the top eight drivers within two tenths of a second.
Race one saw the safety car being deployed twice and Coletti defended his position without avoiding the duel with rivals until the final laps when a drop in the front end grip forced him to increase his rhythm and to finish tenth.
In race two Stefano produced a very good start thanks to which he managed to recover four positions. The race did not offer particular twists until the second-last lap when a race contact with a rival forced the Trident Racing Team's driver to an early retirement.
"The progressive lack of grip, to the front in race one and to the rear end of the car in race two, has been the main theme of my weekend. I hoped to finish eighth in race one to start race two from the pole but the advantage I accumulated was voided when the safety car was deployed and at the restart I had a lot of under-steering therefore I could not defend my position. Anyway, we worked out the reasons for this problem and I believe we will be protagonist again in my home race in Monaco".
Coletti is currently fifth in the classification with ten points, eleven short the leader. The GP2 Main Series will be back on track in seven days time in Monaco.
