Circuit de Monaco
Four points in Monaco for a competitive Stefano Coletti
Strong performance for Stefano Coletti in Monaco's third round of the GP2 Main Series.
The young Monegasque since qualifying appeared to be in good shape on home streets and has been constantly fighting for the top positions obtaining the second row thanks to the fourth fastest time of the session (1:22.449).
The driver for Trident Racing Team, after gaining a position at the start of the Feature Race, during the initial laps kept himself close to the leading couple and occupied the third position for the entire middle part of the race. After the mandatory pit stop for tyres replacement Coletti was pushed down to fifth, position kept afterwards until the chequered flag which awarded him with four points for the classification.
The start of the Sprint Race was unlucky instead as Stefano was stranded on his starting spot when the lights went off due to the high temperature of the clutch. Started almost a lap later, Coletti started a furious recovery that brought him from the last position up to the fifteenth place with nine laps to the end of the race when he has been forced to a definitive pit stop due to the progressive loss in efficiency of the braking system.
"Despite the result I am satisfied with confirming my competitiveness even on a singular track like Monaco. The traffic during the pit stop in the Feature Race made me probably lose the podium on a circuit where overtaking is traditionally hard, while in the Sprint Race the episode at the start has been unavoidably crucial; my race pace was in line with the front runners in both races and this makes us hopeful for next round in Valencia".
Stefano Coletti is now sixth in the classification with 14 points 9 shy of the leader. The GP2 Series will be back on track next 26 June in Valencia (Spain).
