BAHRAIN CURSED AGAIN FOR STEFANO COLETTI
28/04/2012 - The circuit of Sakhir, iBahrain, confirmed to be un-favourable to Stefano Coletti also in the second of the two consecutive rounds scheduled in the GP2 Series 2012 calendar within a week.
The Monegasque driver lived all over again what happened last weekend, starting from a qualifying in which he hit traffic during the only attempt on new tyres, resulting in the twelfth laptime (1'43.206) quite far off his real potential.
In race one, as happened a week ago, Coletti has been put off by a contact from a rival at the first corner. The impact caused some damage to his Dallara and modified the convergence of his rear left tyre; despite the unbalanced setup, Stefano managed to end the race in twenty-first position.
A very good start in the Sprint Race allowed Scuderia Coloni's driver to get back seven positions. Two more successful overtaking manoeuvres moved right in the following laps seemed to envisage a recovery but the progressive tyres wear forced afterwards Coletti to slow his rhythm and give some positions away in the final part of the race that was finally ended in P18.
Stefano Coletti: "We expected to score a different result in this second round in Bahrain, but despite my and team's efforts little has changed from last week, including alas some unlucky episodes. Shakir was probably not the best circuit to show our potential and running for races here did not help:anyway, the European season will start in two weeks time and we count on returning on top places of the classification right from Barcelona".
