The North American driver ended by dominating both sessions of the day. Speed got the fastest time in the practice and confirmed his position in the half hour qualifying session with 1m25.486. The iSport International card showed good consistency that will be important for Saturday`s competition.

"Pole position feels great. It's good for the team, good for all our morale", Speed commented, while he added: "I'm just going to try and keep the ball rolling. The car is `as ran` so that's a plus. It made the whole race distance on Saturday in Imola, so hopefully it'll do the same here", he finished.

With the two points of pole position, Speed has now eight, which makes him tied with Bruni and L?pez in third place of the championship.

Former F1 driver Bruni proved that he will be the man to have for the current season. Bruni set the second fastest lap, as he did in the practice session. About today`s session, the Italian explained: "It was quite a good qualifier. Unfortunately in the end I lost pole position but the lap that I did was OK. I made a mistake on my lap because I was blocked by a few drivers, but I'm happy to be back in the front row. We have a good balance for the race, and I'm confident" he said. After two fourth places at San Marino, tomorrow Bruni will try to get his first podium place in the series, or even better, a victory.

The second row in the starting grid will be a duel between Argentina and Brazil with L?pez and Nelson A. Piquet. The former F3000 driver repeated his position on Imola`s qualifying session. L?pez couldn`t take all the potential of the new tyres and he explains why: "It was a difficult qualifier for me. I made a mistake in the second sector on my first set of new tyres. I just went off and stayed a bit lucky because I got going again. So when I went out on my second set I had to hold back a bit. I kept cool, the car felt good, but I kept a margin of safety", mentioned the DAMS driver.

Piquet arrived in Spain with the intention of changing the image left at Imola and we can say that the Brazilian started well at the weekend. "Today was better than San Marino, but I still had some problems which we need to sort out. During the qualifyng session I had two major problems, one with a fuse box and another getting into first gear again when I tried to leave the pits. I am happy with fourth though, I had aimed for a top six position and I've done it. At least now we can fight for a good race result", commented Piguet.

The top ten places were filled by: Olivier Pla, Juan Cruz Alvarez, Ryan Sharp, Nicolas Lapierre, Borja Garc?a and Nico Rosberg, all of them within less than a second of the pole position.

The Imola winners couldn`t achieved a good result. Heikki Kovalainen, standings leader, set 11th and Adam Carroll ended up with 12th.

Tomorrow's race, that begins after Formula 1's first qualifying session, will be 39 laps around the 4.727 metre circuit.
