HO-PIN TUNG SCORES POINTS IN BOTH GP2- RACES AT SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS
This race weekend at the Belgian circuit 'Spa Francorchamps' gave Ho-Pin Tung the results he was waiting for a long time. A fourth place in the second race and P8 in the first race. The Dutch Chinese GP2 racing driver ended on Sunday right behind the top three, his lap times were perfect and his results are clearly going upwards. 'Everything went well, it was a faultless race, except for my start in race two,' tells Ho-Pin Tung. 'In nine out of ten races my starts are good, this seemed to be the one I missed.' He lost four places at the start of which he claimed one back by 'outbraking' in Les Combes curve at high speed. 'The last race of the season at Valencia in two weeks time it must be a podium finish,' says Ho-Pin Tung with fighting spirit.
Ho-Pin Tung did not rest his case after having lost four places at the start on Sunday. On the contrary, he fought hard battles with championship leader Di Grassi. 'I attacked him twice, the last time in the very last lap at the 'bus stop chicane'. I almost got him.' He showed again to be able to fight with top of the field.
Saturday's race Ho-Pin Tung commenced at P13 and ended it with his first points finish. 'Prior to the pit stop I was not happy with the handling of the car, but with fresh tyres it went better. So the first set of tyres caused the problems.'
The circuit in The Ardennes is long, difficult and demanding. The bend 'Raidillon' is famous and it is said that it divides men from boys. Only true great drivers take 'Raidillon' full throttle'. 'It is thrilling, to go up there with 'the pedal to the metal,' says Ho-Pin Tung with a big smile.
