Giedo wins 'semi-home race' in great style

Giedo van der Garde has convincingly won the second GP2 race at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit after taking the lead at the start and never looking back. The success marks The Flying Dutchman's second win of the year and the fact that it was done in front of so many Dutch fans makes the achievement extra special.

After Saturday's feature race, Giedo was handed an extra position on the sprint grid after iSport team-mate Diego Nunes was penalised, meaning the former started from third position.

At the start, he rocketed to the front by La Source hairpin and controlled the race from there on in. "A perfect day!" Giedo smiled. "I had a great start and took the lead before the first corner. After that there was a short safety car period but at the restart I was able to stretch the lead again - from there I was in control.

"The car was great today and it's a really great victory. The Dutch fans were also great and that makes it extra special. My team-mate finished third, so it's a brilliant day for iSport." McGregor
