Giedo's fighting spirit rewarded at Spa

Giedo van der Garde drove an excellent race at Spa-Francorchamps to finish in seventh position after starting from twelfth on Saturday. Seventh not only means two championship points but also a front row start for tomorrow's sprint race.

Giedo is happy with his performance although his gearbox prevented him from making further progress for iSport. "In the opening laps I went like hell!" he said after a highly eventful 100th race for the GP2 Series. "I managed to make up quite a few places and it was great fun.

"In the final six or seven laps, fifth gear started to falter a bit, which cost me some time on the straights, so Rodriguez passed me for sixth position. It's still a good result and of course a second place on the grid for tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it."

The second race in Belgium will begin at 10:30am local time (GMT +2).
