The Direxiv Motorsport drivers Olivier Pla, Clivio Piccione and Hiroki Yoshimoto missed out on points finishes in a chaotic GP2 race at Spa-Francorchamps. All three drivers ran in the top eight at one stage, but Yoshimoto (BCN) crashed out early on, while Piccione (Durango) and Pla (DPR) dropped back through a combination of the changeable weather and four safety car periods.

Olivier Pla, David Price Racing: 11th
"We ran a sixth gear ratio that was too long and that made me very slow at the start. Basically I was not flat in sixth through Eau Rouge because the revs were so low. It was my decision to pit for wets late on and I think it was a mistake. But this was a crazy race with so many safety cars the conditions would have been great if we were actually racing."

Clivio Piccione, Durango Racing Team: 12th
"In the dry the car was really fast and we were able to make up a lot of places. But I lost a lot of positions to people when there were crashed cars on the track...when Yoshimoto went off I braked and a load of cars overtook me. I also think we pitted two laps too late for the new tyres and that cost me as well. The car was okay in the wet, but I'm hoping for a dry race tomorrow because our pace will be strong."

Hiroki Yoshimoto, BCN Competicion: retired
"I had a lot of understeer and that made me very slow to begin with and that's why so many cars overtook me. I was running behind [Giorgio] Pantano on lap five when Adam Carroll spun ahead of us. But I could see where Carroll was and there wasn't a dangerous situation, but for some reason Pantano slammed on the brakes. I had nowhere to go and I hit him. I don't know why he did that it was just crazy."

Misato Haga, President and CEO, Direxiv Motorsport:
"This was a race where strategy and luck played key roles. The four safety car phases and the rain added to the mix to make it a difficult race that unfortunately didn't play in our favour."
