DOUBLE JOY FOR ARDEN -- PIC FOURTH, CAREER-BEST EIGHTH FOR GONZALEZ
Arden International had a fruitful time in today's GP2 Series race at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. Charles Pic gained one grid position overnight, after stewards penalised several drivers for failing to heed yellow warning flags, and he moved up from sixth to fourth during a race that escaped the worst of the topsy-turvy weather conditions that have hit the circuit throughout the day.
Team-mate Rodolfo Gonzalez made yet another stellar start to progress from 12th to eighth -- and he ran strongly throughout to finish in that position and secure his first championship point of the season. As an added bonus, the Venezuelan will start tomorrow morning's sprint race from pole position.
"I made a terrific start to gain one position straight away, but later compromised my chances by overshooting my pit during the tyre stop. That cost me two positions, to Oliver Turvey and Romain Grosjean, but I was able to repass Turvey quite quickly. By then, though, Grosjean was too far ahead for me to do anything about him. All the same, fourth is a pretty good result and I think we can do at least as well in tomorrow's race. Conditions have been difficult this weekend, but the team has been really sharp and I'd like to thank everybody for helping me to achieve another strong points finish."
"I'm really happy to score my first point. We had a minor setback after my pit stop, but I was able to get my head down and recover several places. The car remained quick and well balanced throughout the race and, happy as I am, I'm sure I can do even better tomorrow. Starting from pole is obviously a major bonus and I intend to make the most of it. It has taken us a while to get this far, but I'd like to thank the team for all its hard work -- and for showing such faith in me."
