Neel Jani once more was a guaranteed top 5 bet for the Saturday race of the GP2 Series taking place today at the Silverstone track. Neel finished the race in 5th position, which puts the Racing Engineering driver in 4 place for Sunday's starting grid. Racing Engineering continues to be the best Spanish team in the championship.
Neel Jani, who qualified in 5th position, was 4th at the start after Piquet's early retirement in the warm-up lap. He occupied 4th position until he came into the pits for his obligatory pit stop on lap 11. Rejoining the race in 14th position, Neel made up positions throughout the rest of the race and finished 5th. Once a g a i n the Swiss driver scored important points in the championship standings. He will start Sunday's sprint race from 4th position and therefore the expectations are clearly to see him finish in the points again.
Borja Garcia, behind the steering wheel tof Racing Engineering's number 19 car, started the race from 15 h position and opted for an early pit stop in lap 3. Going backth out onto the track in 20th position, Borja made his way up to 14 position. However, at his first race at the Silverstone track, the Spaniard experienced qutihe a bit of understeer on his car and crossed the finish line in 17th position.
Neel Jani, after finishing in the points again, commented, "From the very beginning I had oversteer in the fast corners and after one third of the race I additionally experienced understeer. Right after the pit stop the car felt fine again but just for some two laps. Then I had over- as well as understeer. So in general we seem to be fast for one or two laps and then the problems start... Nevertheless I finished 5th, which provides me with a good starting position for tomorrow's race".
After Saturday's race Borja Garcia said, "I had a lot of understeer and as a consequence no possibility to push during the race. We have to work on overcoming this problem now. I will start 17th tomorrow, a position which we can't expect too much from".
Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón concluded the race day by saying, "Neel did a great job finishing 5th today and scoring points again. However, there is no doubt that both our drivers suffered from very similar problems today and from what I saw, the same goes for most of the field. Silverstone is a technically very demanding track and finding the proper set up might be more difficult than most of the other tracks we race at. I am convinced that our drivers and engineers will work hard now trying to improve the cars' handling".
