Alvaro Parente 26 hundredths of a second from pole
Alvaro Parente and Karun Chandhok will start from third and eleventh on the grid respectively for the first GP2 race at Silverstone. The two Ocean Racing Technology drivers displayed their potential during the free practice session where they finished in 3rd (Karun) and 5th (Alvaro) places but unfortunately, only the Portuguese driver managed to translate his competitiveness into a good place on the starting grid. Alvaro Parente was a mere 26 hundredths of a second off pole position, but Karun Chandhok was constantly caught in traffic that ruined his three fast runs.
Parente is definitely satisfied with his performance. "Qualifying went really well and I could do two fast laps with a clear track which helped in getting a good result. The car is good, but we have to improve it a bit in the slow section because that's where we're losing some time," explained Parente, who's main aim will be to have a good, clean and faultless race in order to fight for a podium finish. "We are working on set-up and tyres so as not to wear them out too much too quickly. We are trying to find the right set-up in order to be fast and consistent in the race."
As for teammate Karun Chandhok, he was unable to hide his frustration after three laps that were all wasted by his rivals... "I regret what happened. I am very disappointed because I know we could have been guaranteed a position into the top 5. 11th spot on the grid is not ideal for the race, but the car is strong, as we could see in free practice, and I will do my very best to gain some positions and come close to a points position in order to secure some if possible. I know a good start can be the key for a good finish."
