Never before has a team scored as many points in a GP2 championship race weekend: with 25 points brought back from Silverstone ART Grand Prix is now right on the heels for the championship leader, just 8 points out from Arden International, with a 24 point lead on its nearest competitor, Super Nova.
The team is also pleased on an individual level, with Nico Roseberg's brilliant victory in the first race, after the team's second pole in a row, after Alexandre Premat's Pole Position at Magny-Cours. The latter, relegated by a ten place penalty on the starting grid -- made an outstanding recovery from 14th place to 3rd at Silverstone.
Nico and Alexandre also scored points in the second race, placing them in 2nd and 8th place respectively in the drivers' championship, with 44 and 24 points.
"This was a great weekend on many levels. After Magny-Cours, which had raised plenty of hopes with Alex's Pole Position, it was particularly satisfying to get another Pole, but also the lap record and a win at Silverstone. How gratifying! Alex and Nico drove a great race Sunday despite a few little problems, but it's the first time that the team has had a weekend without any major problems: the cars ran well, the team worked hard and our drivers set some great performances, which gives the whole team a great dynamic."
"I was confident when I arrived at Silverstone because, for the past few races, the team have finally been reaping the fruits of our labours and have been at the forefront on a regular basis. But I knew I had a big challenge ahead of me because of this ten place penalty on the starting grid. The free practices and qualifying went well, but I wasn't able to use my second set of new tires in the last session, because of the electrical problems associated with the battery. So ending in 4th place in the end was honourable, but when you convert that to 14th on the grid it looked like a hard race... I had a good start in the first race and I found my self in 10th after the first lap. The team had gone with the right strategy by bringing me right into the pits to put on the new tires. The track was open before me, and I was able to attack and set lap record after lap record. So by the end of the pit stops I had climbed to third place. Nico and Heikki came out of the pits right in front of me, but my tires were fairly worn and so I secured third place."
"The second race was more eventful. Once again I had a good start, and I was virtually in the points very quickly. Unfortunately Kovalainen brushed me while making a more than optimistic braking at Chapel. I had to go onto the grass and lost three places on the deal. I managed to overtake Lapierre and Jani, and I had gotten my rhythm back when my gearbox started to slip on me; without 6th gear all I could hope for was bringing the car in for the finish and to get a few points."
"I am happy for myself and for the team because we are excellent when it comes to pure performance. The hard work is paying off and I think that ART Grand Prix and its drivers left our mark this weekend in one of the temples of auto racing!"
"I'm really happy -- it worked out well in the first race. We were able to open a safe gap for the pitstop, that worked out well and we came out in front, and then I just controlled the gap to Heikki until the end. It was a great race but when you're in front the race just doesn't want to end anymore, so I was really happy to eventually get there."
"After an average start in race 2, I got passed Lapierre, Premat and Jani to take fifth position by lap 3. From then on, with the interruption of a safety car period caused by Piquet, it was a five way fight in the front with Pla leading the way. It was very difficult to overtake as the track has many high speed corners where due to the aerodynamics it's very difficult to follow the car in front. So after Piccione abandoned from second, I finished the race in forth. I'm very happy with the result as I only lost 1 point to Kovalainen who started in front of me. I'm looking forward to making Kovalainen a little nervous in the next couple of race."
