SERGIO PEREZ SEALS GREAT WIN IN BRITISH GRAND PRIX.
GIEDO VAN DER GARDE FINISHES IN 7TH PLACE.
BARWA ADDAX TEAM REMAIN SECOND OVERALL.
Barwa Addax Team driver, Sergio Perez drove his way to a magnificent victory after having started from 5th position on the starting grid. His team mate Giedo van der Garde finished in seventh place.
Sergio Perez has shown once more his enormous talent in the British GP2 Grand Prix at Silverstone. Starting from 5th he made a flying start and managed to overtake Vietoris to climb to 3rd position as early as the first lap. He was in aggressive mode and attacked Valsecchi, who was running second at the time. He overtook him on the third lap and set out to catch the leader of the race. One lap later he overtook his rival to lead the race. From then on he started to pull away and set the fastest race lap time. He continued to stretch away building up a fifteen second lead from the rest of the field at the end of the race. He was more than half a second quicker per lap than anyone over the course of the whole race and from the pit lane, the rest of the Barwa Addax Team tried to convince him to slow down his rhythm and conserve his lead.
Giedo van der Garde after his unlucky last lap incident in the first race managed to keep up with the leading drivers in the sprint race and ended up seventh after having started from ninth. The Dutch driver was unlucky enough to finish just outside the points in both races this weekend. Ninth and seventh meant that he was just one position away from picking up at least one point in both races.
Sergio Perez continuously demonstrates that if he is not dogged by bad luck, as has so often happened this season, including being hit three times in the last event by three different rivals, he would be fighting it out for the overall lead in the championship. He is without doubt one of the two drivers who has dominated this class this season but this is not reflected in the overall rankings in the driver's championship. Nevertheless Sergio Perez is moving every bit closer to the top three drivers in the general classification, as he moves up to fourth while his team mate Giedo van der Garde holds on to a top five position overall. Barwa Addax Team with both drivers among the leaders remain second overall in the constructor's championship.
The next GP2 event will take place in Germany at the Hockenheim circuit from the 23rd-25th of July.
