Silverstone - Day 2
Scuderia Coloni Satisfied With Silverstone Test
Scuderia Coloni archived the Silverstone Test days, the first act of the 2011 GP2 Series, with another intense day of work, very useful in order to get prepared for the season that is going to start in one month with the first round on the Instanbul Park track.
After getting the chance to better know the car’s behaviour on a wet track yesterday, today the drivers and the team took advantage of the dry track to try lots of different set-up solutions, a work that will prove very useful in July, when Silverstone will host the 5th round of the Series.
Michael Herck was 14th in the morning session, then closing the afternoon with the 15th time. His potential was much better than that, but an harmless spin in the last minutes of the day prevented him from improving his laptime with the 2nd set of tyres. The Romanian driver was anyway very satisfied with the job carried out by the team: “The weather conditions did a lot to make our work more difficult, but we managed to do a good job anyway, especially considering that we had just one day to test on slicks. Silverstone is very different from the tracks we raced on in the Asia Series, so it was very important to understand how the car-tyres package behaves in this conditions. We gathered some interesting datas, that will be very useful right from the next sessions in Barcelona”.
Davide Rigon, meanwhile, took P17 in both sessions: the Italian driver finally had the possibility to get acquainted with the car on a dry track, after managing just some laps on slicks yesterday. In his case, the team focused on giving him as many set-ups as possible to try, in order to show him how changes affect the car’s behaviour and also to find a base set-up that suits his driving style the best, something that Davide really appreciated: “Today was a really good day, finally I had two whole session with slicks and this meant that I had the time to understand the car. The team did a great job giving me a lot of different options to try, and this was great because to make the most of such an extreme car you really need to adapt it to your driving style; we started that job today, and we’ll keep working on that in the upcoming Barcelona test. I’m not worried about performance, drivers who did the whole GP2 Asia with this car are obviously quicker now, but I’m not worried about that, also because some traffic spoiled my try with the second set. Our potential was better than the final laptime we achieved”.
