FIRST LAPS WITH THE GP2/11 IN LE CASTELLET FOR SCUDERIA COLONI AND MICHAEL HERCK
Less than a week has passed from the Dallara GP2/08 last race, but the teams have already gone on track with its successor, the GP2/11 on the Paul Ricard circuit on November 18.
Starting the new car era for Scuderia Coloni was Michael Herck, already confirmed for the whole 2011 season and ready to face the important task of giving the team accurate informations on the car's behaviour after the shakedown.
With just one day of testing and above all with just one set of the new Pirelli tyres available, the team's job was focused on gathering as much informations and datas as possible, aim that was accomplished with very short runs, usually consisting in only one timed lap just to see how the car was reacting to set-up changes.
Everything progressed with no issues and now the team will get acquainted with the car at the workshop, waiting for the next GP2/11 testing session, from 2 to 7 February in Abu Dhabi.
Paolo Coloni: "We are very happy with the outcome of the session. With just one set of tyres we only focused on getting datas and some directions to work on, and that's why we never really tried a flyer, making just out/in runs. Everything worked flawlessly, gearbox and engine were fine and also the tyres are looking good, so noe we just have to wait for the next session to have the chance to push a bit more".
Michael Herck: "Driving the first laps in a new car is always a thrilling moment of a driver's life. Yesterday I renewed this feeling with the new GP2 2011 in my new Team. I felt immediately comfortable and our day ran smoothly and flawlessly. The car didn't show any problem and the Team could get all the informations seeked for this test. We purposely haven't looked for sheer performance, and we are fully satisfied with the way this day went.I can't wait to start pushing!!!".
