Monaco, Race 2: Consistent Performance For Ceccon And Herck

The Monaco weekend ended with a good second race for Scuderia Coloni and its drivers, with Kevin Ceccon and Michael Herck closing in P12 and P15 after a very consistent race in which they both boasted a great pace, frustrated by a track layout that gives nearly no chances for overtaking.

Ceccon was again impressive and after a difficult start, with three rivals passing him, he sticked himself to Palmer's tail for the whole race. Lap after lap Kevin was finding more and more confidence with the car and the track and in the last third of the race he started lapping on a 1'24 pace as race leader Pic. Despite this, he never had a real chance to overtake Palmer, also because he had to keep an eye towards the mirror in order to control a very aggressive Bird. The Brit is renowned as one of the best talents when it comes to braking, but Kevin managed to defend his position cleanly until the checkered flag.

Herck, meanwhile, passed three rivals at the start and closed the first lap in P10, then passing Mirocha for 9th place. Unfortunately Race Direction decided that Michael had to be penalised for jumping the start with a drive through, and this dropped him in P15. At this point of the race Herck was much quicker than Gonzales in front of him, but he didn't have a chance to go through.

Paolo Coloni: “We leave Montecarlo satisfied with both our job and our drivers'. Kevin had a pace that was worth the top ten, and showed that he is already able to keep at bay an experienced and quick driver as Bird. Furthermore, after two full GP2 weekend he still didn't make a single mistake, finishing all the sessions and all the races and gathering a lot of experience, exactly what we where asking him. He really is one of the most amazing Italian talents and I'm happy that we gave him this chance to prove himself. On the other side, Michael did a great first part of the race today, and the penalty was really a pity. Anyway this can't cancel his great performance and the very good race pace he had”.
