Rossi gets a ride for Hockenheim

Alexander Rossi and Caterham recently parted ways, but just as one door closes, another one has opened for the American-born racer.

The GP2 event at Hockenheim will conflict with the Auto GP event at Red Bull Ring, a championship in which Kimiya Sato is the leader. The Japanese driver will miss the German round of the GP2 championship as a result.

With his decision to compete in the Auto GP race, Campos Racing has been left looking for a wheelman and California native Alexander Rossi ended up being selected as Sato's replacement.

Formula One hopeful Alexander Rossi recently parted ways with Caterham, which fielded cars for him in GP2. He won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with the orginization last year and is also a two-time victor in the GP3 series (different team though). Before their split, he placed as high as fifth in a Grand Prix this year.

He was also a Formula One test driver for the team and took part in a handful of Friday practice sessions. Campos Racing has struggled in 2014, with Sato failing to post a result better than 14th after ten rounds.
