At the circuit of Le Castellet of Paul Ricard, located southern France, the GP2 Series completed today a two days test session where Nico Rosberg came up with the fastest time in the overall followed by Giorgio Pantano and the standingss leader, Heikki Kovalainen.
In a sunny journey with higher temperatures than Tuesday, the 12 teams completed the fifth all-together test since the first that the GP2 held on February.
Rosberg, driver of the ART Grand Prix team, set a lap of 1m15.897 in the morning session. The son of former F1 champion Keke Rosberg was also the fastest yesterday when the series disputed its first test under rainy conditions.
Rosberg, who is in fifth place in the championship with 21 points, completed 51 laps on the first session and 43 in the afternoon in which his best lap time was 1m16.277.
Italian Pantano, driver of Super Nova team, took second fastest lap in the second session of the day in 1m16.239. Despite almost everyone set the fastest time in the morning, Pantano made the opposite by improving his performance in the afternoon. Pantano, poleman in Nurburgring this season, completed 80 laps around the 3.853km circuit.
The Finn Kovalainen finished the day on third place with the Dallara-Renault of Arden International. Kovalainen, winner this year at San Marino and Nurburgring, clocked 1m16.267 in his best try during the afternoon leaving behind the 1m16.371 of the morning.
Top ten places: Rosberg, Pantano, Kovalainen, Nelson A. Piquet, Cilvio Piccione, Adam Carroll, Alexandre Premat, Neel Jani, José María López and Borja García.
Standings positions: Kovalainen, 38; Scott Speed, 29; Carroll, 28; Gianmaria Bruni, 27 and Rosberg 21 points.
GP2 Series activity will continue on July 2nd and 3rd in the French racetrack of Magny-Cours for the eighth and ninth race of the season.
