Alexandre Premat, with the car of champion team ART, headed the timesheets in day one of GP2 series tests held in Circuit Paul Ricard Hich Tech Test Track in France, as Argentinean José María López and Brazilean Luca Di Grassi filled top three places.
The journey started with temperatures up nearing 15 degrees and not a hint of wind around the track, in the second test session of the 2006 GP2 series season.
Premat set a laptime of 1m12.887 and was the only that was able to break the 1m13 barrier. The French driver completed 72 laps around the circuit and put once again ART Grand Prix as the team to beat this season.
Second quickest of the day belong to López. The Super Nova driver had dominated the morning session with a register of 1m13.126 that was finally right behind Premat in the overall.
López, who completed 59 laps today, confirmed his potential in the afternoon with another strong time of 1m13.200.
Third place was for another member of Renault Driver Development as Brazilean Luca Di Grassi took 1m13.220 with one of Durango's team cars.
Completing a positivie day for South-American drivers, Nelson A. Piquet set in the afternoon fourth place right after his country-men in a laptime of 1m13.221. The Brazilean is one of the strong candidates to run for the title in the preview of the season.
Adrian Valles gave to Adrian Campos team a good reason to be happy with fifth place. The Spaniard proved a great shape with a mark of 1m13.260.
Sixth position was for Alexandre Negrao with his time of 1m13.266 set in the morning session. Lewis Hamilton -who in February set the fastest lap of a GP2 car in this circuit with 1m12.838- took seventh followed by Franck Perera with a machine of Dams, and both iSport International drivers, Ernest Viso and Tristan Gommendy, in top ten places.
