It was the turn today for Nelson A. Piquet to dominate the second day of GP Series pre-season tests held on the Circuit Paul Ricard Hich Tech Test Track in France. Both ART Grand Prix drivers, Alex Premat and Lewis Hamilton, completed the top three fastest times behind the Piquet Sports racer.
Piquet set a lap time of 1m13s068 which put him at the top of the day but third in the overall list combining the two day times. The time of 1m12s838 clocked by Hamilton and José María López`s 1m12.957 ended up the two quickest of the the two day session.
French driver Premat took second fastest of the day after he set the pace in the morning session with a strong lap of 1m13.105. His new teammate Hamilton confirmed his potential with 1m13.179 lap time in the afternoon.
Today's surprised was Andreas Zuber and the new Trident Racing team by setting fourth quickest with 1m13.276. The Austrian driver showed his and the team`s good adaptation to the series in their second day on track. Italian Gianmaria Bruni completed the happy day for the team with a strong top ten place.
Argentinean López, now in Super Nova International for 2006 season, proved fast today, the same as yesterday, taking fifth overall. The member of the Renault Driver Development program set 1m13.355, although almost half second slower than his time from Wednesday.
Ernesto Viso, with the iSport International car, finished sixth place, followed by Adam Carroll, Lucas Di Grassi, Alexandre Negrao and Bruni closing the top ten places.
GP2 first tests proved the hard the series will be this year with 19 cars split by one second at the end of the day.
The category will resume tests again in Paul Ricard on March 16th, 17th.
