PICCIONE JOINS PLA AT DPR FOR 2006
The British DPR team has announced that its two drivers for the 2006 GP2 Series will be Frenchman Olivier Pla and Clivio Piccione of Monaco. Twenty-one-year-old Piccione joins DPR from Durango, while Pla remains with the team for his second successive season. Their combined driving experience, together with an expanded engineering department, is what Team Principal David Price believes will make all the difference in 2006.
"It's great to have two experienced drivers who both won GP2 races in 2005. Clivio, like Olivier, is a proven race winner. Over the winter period we've invested heavily in simulation software and additional engineers, and I'm confident this -- with our driver line up - gives us a great start to the coming season.
Olivier Pla is very happy to be continuing with DPR. "I think it's a big advantage to know the team so well, to know how professional they are. I will continue with my same engineer, Chris Gorne, who has been having a lot of success over the winter in A1GP, and that gives me great confidence. Last year we were quite unlucky many times, and missed out on good results, but this year we have no reason not to perform. I know we can do a good job."
Pla's new team mate, Piccione, is equally upbeat about the forthcoming season. "I'm really happy to be joining DPR. They showed they have a lot of potential to succeed during the 2005 season. I have great trust in David Price and I think we will do a great job all together. Olivier will be a good team mate; we know each other already, and it's our second year in GP2, and I think this is a really key point to make us push each other to achieve the best results."
