Pic "talking to several GP2 teams" for 2016

Pic, brother of former Formula 1 driver Charles, raced with Campos in GP2 in 2014 and 2015, finishing seventh and 11th respectively.

He enjoyed an encouraging rookie season and took a maiden win at the Hungaroring, but did not get to stand on the top step of the podium in his sophomore campaign.

The Frenchman was absent from the post-season test at Yas Marina, instead running in the concurrent DTM rookie test with Audi. But he confirmed that returning to GP2 still remains a possibility.

"It is an option to stay in GP2," Pic told Motorsport.com. "I’m talking to several teams. I didn’t do the tests because I had the DTM test and I know the GP2 car, so I don’t think the tests would have been that useful, while I did learn from the DTM car.

"It is not impossible that I’m doing GP2 again if I get a good deal in a good team."

Eyeing DTM

Following his run with Audi, Pic said that he would like to eventually land a drive in the DTM.

"For sure, if I have a DTM seat with one of the three constructors, I’ll take it, no contest," he said. "Nowadays, anyway, I think DTM is right below F1 in my humble opinion. It is a category where I would like to race.

"[The test] went well. Very different from single-seaters, in terms of driving. It was my first time in a closed-cockpit car.

"The car is nice to drive, there’s a lot of grip, especially in fast corners, there’s lots of downforce. The brakes are good. There isn’t much power, but it’s nice to drive."

Sophomore slump

In 2015, Pic endured a troubled second season in GP2, finsihing four places below his rookie result.

He matched teammate Rio Haryanto in qualifying, but was thoroughly outscored in the races - and it was the Indonesian who brought home all three of Campos' wins.

"For sure, we did not get the results we were hoping for, especially after last year," Pic said. "I had many issues on the car throughout the year – its behaviour was hardly understandable. We don’t know if it’s linked to the car itself, or maybe the fact that they changed the tyres.

"What is sure is that the car didn’t react the way we wanted over several races indeed. So, for sure, it has been a disappointing season overall."

Pic marked high levels of tyre degradation as a specific reason for the lack of performance.

"We were not too impacted on circuits with low degradation. Circuits like Monaco, Silverstone, Monza, Spa to a lesser extent, are the tracks where we were impacted the least and that’s where we got the best results. As soon as we arrived on a circuit with degradation, it was very costly.

"We could tell there was something abnormal, we compared with the other car, but they couldn’t explain it.

"I can’t really criticise the team, because they still changed quite a lot of parts. They were victims, like myself. They tried to change things, but nothing worked out."
