BRUNI DENIED VICTORY BY A PUNCTURE; GOOD TENTH PLACE FOR LAUDA

Nurburgring - Gianmaria Buni's chances to win were compromised by a puncture. The Coloni Motorsport's driver started from second place, beside pole-sitter Giorgio Pantano. After a good start he began to push to once again try and take a podium finish.

Notwithstanding Pantano had every intention of keeping the lead, Bruni was very determined, and, on lap eight, succeeded in taking the head of the race and remained in first position for six laps.

Unfortunately, after his pit stop, disaster struck and an unexpected tyre puncture caused Bruni to spin off the track. In the end, the Roman driver finished the race in eighth position.

But tomorrow, thanks to the reversion of the first eight positions rule, Bruni will be able to start from pole and will have free track in front of him. Team Principal Paolo Coloni said at the end of the race: " I am really disappointed I could not lead Gimmi and the team to victory today and to the leadership in the championship. I was also surprised we incurred that kind of puncture, which seriously compromised our positions in the standings. Tomorrow we will certainly be the ones to beat. I am confident that, as we will all start with new tyres, we will be able to make up for today.

I wish to congratulate Gimmi for the way he drove and took the chequered flag with a really worn out tyre".

Mathias Lauda's performance was also very good. Coloni's other driver finished the race in tenth position, showing once again a steady improvement. GP2 second race will be shown on live television by Rai Uno Sunday morning starting from 10.30.
