Alvaro Parente scored his first points of the season in today's Nurburgring GP2 race, after seeing the chequered flag in the sixth place, a position that allows him to start tomorrow's race from third.
The Portuguese driver started from ninth and had his sights in the top eight, putting, that way, an end in the bad luck stream from which he has been a victim since the beginning of the season. But his mission was hard because of the tough opposition.
Alvaro Parente was along all race among the drivers that were fighting for the points positions, although he couldn't avoid a spin when, at the pit-lane exit, he tried to defend his place from Javier Villa, after a good pit-stop made by the Ocean Racing Technology's boys.
With a strong will to succeed, the twenty-four years old driver evolved to seventh after a contact between Pastor Maldonado and Diego Nunes and a good overtake maneuver to Lucas di Grassi. The Portuguese driver started to attack Romain Grosjean, whom made some small mistakes that, nevertheless, weren't enough to lose his sixth position. However, the Championship leader had to retire with technical problems, promoting Alvaro Parente to sixth. "I'm very pleased with this result, but it wasn't easy", said the driver supported by Soccerade, Delta, TMN, Aurora Group, Geotur and Cision, adding: "I didn't start very well, but I was eight in the first corner, which was good. The team did a good work in the pits, but it was very cold and I spun when I was leaving the pit-lane and defending my position from Javier Villa. I recover two positions with the problems from the others and I overtook Lucas di Grassi, which allowed me to begin to attack Romain Grosjean. He was very fast in the straight-lines and I decided not to risk a move on him, but he retired and I grabbed the sixth place".
With today's good result, Alvaro Parente will start tomorrow's race from third, which gives him good chances to achieve another good score. "The start will be very important, because it's not easy to pass in the circuit. I think that, if I start well, I can fight for a position in the podium, and that was a good way of ending this weekend", underlined the Portuguese youngster.
