Nelsinho Piquet reacts on Monaco aan de Maas
Q: What are your thoughts about the Netherlands and the Dutch fans after this event Monaco aan de Maas?
Piquet: I have been to the Netherlands many times before, with my mother and also for racing at Zandvoort, so this was another new experience there, and one which was very enjoyable. It is good to be able to do an event like this in front of fans who may not have the chance to come to a race, and the fans were great. I hope they all had a great time, despite the rain!
Q: Did the enormous media coverage and the many Dutch people who came to see you and said hello, asked for an autograph or picture this weekend surprise you?
Piquet: It was really nice to see so many fans there and the event attracted a lot of media. I think I heard there was something like 200,000 people that turned up, which is great.
Q: Driving demonstration laps in a (former) Formula One car of your father Nelson Piquet, the Lotus 101 from 1989, you were very glad you did have the opportunity to participate in this race event in Rotterdam. Now after the running your laps in the Lotus 101, what is your reaction on the demonstration you have done this afternoon?
Piquet: It's always fun to drive different cars. You can't really go too fast in it on a circuit like this, but I like to drive different things to see how they feel, and to see how it must have felt for my father to drive it.
Q: Can you tell us beside GP2, what will be your race and sport activities, in August 2005 ?
Piquet: Next week I will go to Turkey for the GP2 race and that is all I have confirmed at the moment. I did the A1 GP test at Silverstone which was good, and we will just have to see what happens.
Q: What is your opinion on your first A1 GP test, last week at Silverstone? Emerson Fittipaldi was very impressed with your speed, you were second fastest on the first day of testing, amongst 19 cars and 28 drivers.
Piquet: The reason I did the test was to see how the car is, get a feeling for how the team works and see how interesting it can be for me in the future. Everything went well, we did not have any problems and the car was reliable. It's quite a simple car - the tyres are very similar to F3 and it's not a difficult car to drive.
Q: The Official Fan Club Nelsinho Piquet Europe and the Official Fan Club Nelsinho Piquet Nederland have made the initial contact with the organisation of Monaco aan de Maas about the possibility of you, Nelsinho Piquet participating in this event on August 7th 2005. Now, after the event, are you glad we have made the contact which resulted in your participation ? If next year there will be a Monaco aan de Maas 2006, can we again count on your presence ?
Piquet: I am really happy to have been able to do this event. I got to meet many fans and drive one of my father's old cars - the second one I have driven this year. If my schedule is okay, I try to do events like this because they are enjoyable.
