The first Race held today at Monza for the eight round of the 2007 GP2 Series proved to be action-packed since the beginning, as the Safety Car was forced to enter the track 3 times. Trident Racing profited from race happenings to climb up to a points finish with Ricardo Risatti, who ended in 8th and will be starting from pole position in tomorrow`s Race 2. Kohei Hirate suffered from a contact had with another car at Roggia, ending his race on lap 13th. The final Race of the weekend will be broadcasted live by RAI, Sky Sport and Eurosport.
Maurizio Salvadori, Team Owner
"We`re very happy with the the 8th position scored by Risatti only in his second GP2 Start. Ricardo made a very good job and, also thanks to the great strategy played by the team, managed to clinch the points zone. We were even helped by some good luck, and it`s good to see it after the several unfortunate events we had to face. It`s a shame for the bad break happened to Hirate, but we`re still missing one race to end the weekend... and we`ll be starting it from pole".
Ricardo Risatti, 8th
"I have to admit that the first race didn`t really have a good start, since I lost time by spinning at Ascari. Then I managed to get back up to speed, seeing my confidence with the car increase lap-by-lap. Though, it hasn`t been an easy task due to the huge battle started right after the three safety-car periods. I`m happy both for my first point in GP2 and for tomorrow`s pole spot. I count to work with our technicians to improve our set-up for Race 2".
Kohei Hirate, DNF
"I`m so disappointed for how my race ended up today. I made a great start, that allowed me to challenge the top-10 drivers at the first chicane. Unfortunately, Conway`s car spun right in front of me, forcing me to stop completely. Then, after the pit-stop, I rejoined in front of the leaders. I gave all the possible room for passing, but once at Roggia I suddenly felt a bump in the right rear quarter and I realized that Buemi had hit me. It`s a pity, because in that place I really had nowhere to go, and I would have let him pass right at the exit".
