Starting from 10th on the grid at a circuit as tight as Monaco with its few overtaking opportunities meant that Javier was always going to find it difficult to gain many place in today's Sprint race. In the event this was exactly what happened and Javi was only able to finish 8th at the chequered through other peoples misfortunes rather than being able to use his undoubted speed to gain places.
Javi made a clean start and all the drivers made it through Ste Devote without incident and, making sure that he made no mistakes, Javi finished the first lap of 30 in 10th place. The Spaniard's Super Nova Dallara was close on the gearbox of Rigon but unable to find a way past and for several laps the Javi pushed hard whilst pulling away from Perez.
There was a big group of cars ahead of Javi with 3rd to 10th position separated by about 6 seconds and it was clear that unless anybody made a mistake the positions were likely to remain unchanged. As the race progressed Javi pulled further away from Perez but although still less than a second behind Rigon the Italian was driving carefully and Javi could not overtake.
As the race entered the last 4 laps it seemed that Javi would finish in 10th but a big accident to Grosjean saw the deployment of the Safety Car and with two laps left, as the marshalls tried to clear up the debris, it was decided to red flag the race. The final results saw Javi in 8th place, not what he was hoping for but once again, when able, he showed his pace in the Super Nova car and he will now look to Turkey in June for a change for the better to his bad luck.
Javier Villa's own words: "I finished eight in a hard race, with no overtaking at all, neither yesterday nor today. The only chance was at the start and from then on it was very difficult. I think we had quite a good weekend, in qualifying as well as in the races, we had a fast and very stable car but we had very bad luck. I'm pretty sure that in the next race, in Turkey, we are going to be at the front from the start in qualifying as that is the first thing to do to have a good race later."
