A magnificent result for Javier Villa in the Monaco GP2 qualifying session. On the most difficult circuit of the entire season, Javier was giving a impressive example of his talent by getting a place in the top half oif the grid, by far and away his best result of the season so far and at a track where driver skills can really make a difference.

Villa had his first experience at the wheel of a GP2 car on the Monegasque streets in Thursday's free practice session, in which he focused on learning the track and worked with his team on the car setup without worrying about laptimes.

This work continued in the second free practice, disputed during the early morning on Friday and this paid off in the frantic half hour of qualification run immediately after. At the begining both the traffic and a red flag caused by the accident of another competitor prevented Javier from taking the maximum advantage from his first set of fresh tyres. The same thing happened with the second set, the first laps on the new rubber being ruined by yet another red flag situation.

Once the track was clear and with very little time left to run, Villa was giving his all and although the tyres were not in perfect condition, he managed to get two clean laps and one of then was good enough to put him in 13th position on the timesheets. An excellent result that will allow Villa to start on Saturday, in the only race of the weekend, from the seventh row of the grid and with aspirations to achieve a good result in the event, the one most followed by the press and public of the whole season.

Javier Villa words: "We gave our best from the first moment though there have been a lot of problems with the traffic. With the first set of new tyres we could only do three laps before the red flag went out. We then put the second set of fresh rubber and again the session was red flagged. Finally we achieved two good laps that put us 13th for the race. I am very satisfied with the result although I know tomorrow is going to be tough because on this circuit it's very easy to make mistakes, but we will try to finish as high as possible."
