GIEDO VAN DER GARDE FINISHES 2nd. SERGIO PEREZ COMES HOME 6th.
BARWA ADDAX TEAM CELEBRATE ANOTHER PODIUM FINISH.
Barwa Addax Team have rounded off what has been a great weekend at the Monaco GP, with Giedo van der Garde finishing second on the winner's rostrum and Sergio Perez finally got into the points after crossing the finish line in 6th place.
Giedo van der Garde has competed very well this weekend. Having to start from a difficult 12th position in the first race, he was able to climb to sixth and he confirmed this progress with a magnificent 2nd place in this, the second race of the weekend. Giedo started today's race from third on the grid. After a flying start, he managed to gain a position and came out of the legendary Santa Devota corner in second place, a position he would hold on to till the end of the race. He clearly demonstrated that his place is among the leading drivers. He managed to pull away from the third placed rival in the first half of the race and once more, after the safety had been called into action on lap 18.
Sergio Perez has shown once more why he is now leading the driver's championship. After his exhibition in yesterday's first race, he started today from eighth on the grid, the first eight from yesterday's race start the second race with their positions inverted. On a circuit as complicated as Montecarlo , where overtaking is almost impossible, Sergio managed to climb two positions to get into the points without taking any necessary risks. He could have even picked up another point after being only a tenth off the fastest lap time. It is clear that the young Mexican driver has been able to put the troubles of Barcelona behind him.
After the point picked up today, Sergio Perez has increased his lead in the championship over his closest rivals. Giedo van der Garde has climbed to eighth position in the overall classification and both drivers are now on a positive roll. Barwa Addax Team, after what has been a tremendous weekend for the Spanish team, have consolidated their second placing overall in the team rankings, having reduced the lead by 8 points, and are now just one point off the pace. After the trials and tribulations of Barcelona, including Sergio's engine failure, when he looked destined for a good finish and the numerous sanctions suffered, the team can feel more than satisfied with the course of events this weekend.
The next GP2 event will take place at the Turkish circuit of Istanbul Park, at the Turkish Formula 1 GP weekend from the 28th-30th of May.
