ANOTHER TWO POINTS FOR VITALY PETROV. ROMAIN GROSJEAN IN SPECTACULAR CRASH.

BARWA ADDAX TEAM STAY ON TOP OF THE GP2 SERIES RANKINGS.

After Romain Grosjean's spine-chilling accident with just three laps to go, it was decided that the second GP2 Series race at the Montecarlo street circuit should be concluded, when Grosjean was running at the time, in sixth place closely followed by his Barwa Addax Team team-mate, Vitaly Petrov.

It seems that the penalties imposed on the drivers for jumping the first chicane, among other offences, have had their effect on the drivers because there wasn't a single incident to report, neither at the start nor throughout the whole of the first lap.

From early on, the group that created the only real action, was that formed by the drivers running between 3rd and 8th place. The drivers were in the main adopting a very conservative approach, waiting for the deterioration of tyres in the latter stages of the race, with the exception of the Barwa Addax Team drivers, who produced the exciting moments. They were the only ones pushing and attacking continuously.

Romain kept attacking Andreas Zuber, looking for the possibility to overtake or pressure him into making a mistake. Three laps from the finish, Zuber overcooked the brakes at the port chicane, which meant he had to go over it, affecting his acceleration out of the chicane. Romain seized on his opportunity and attacked on the inside at the next bend. Andreas cut across to close the gap and when Romain tried to take him on the outside, he desperately cut across again but this time collided with the Barwa driver, catapulting him into the security fence. He literally flew a great distance which left everybody stunned and more than worried about the consequences. Surprisingly, Romain Grosjean got out of the car without needing assistance and completely unscathed. It's clear that the race stewards will be studying the incident.

Vitaly Petrov, who finished in the points, had the perfect view of the incident, as throughout the whole race he was just behind his team-mate and championship leader, pushing hard to overtake. It was a clear indication that the Barwa Addax Team had a race rhythm superior to their rivals but they simply weren't able to impose their superiority, due to the difficulty of overtaking on the Monaco circuit. Despite being held up, Petrov set the fastest race lap time, assuring another point and this was enough to protect his second position overall.

Barwa Addax Team stay top of the leaderboard in both team and driver rankings. They have accumulated an incredible 49 points after just two events. The drivers championship is being dominated by Romain Grosjean on 31 points, followed by Vitaly Petrov second overall on 18 points.
