PATRIZI MAKES FURTHER IMPROVEMENT IN GP2 TESTING

West Australian driver Michael Patrizi has made further improvement in two days of testing with GP2 Series team David Price Racing at the Paul Ricard circuit in France.

Patrizi, who has raced Formula BMW the past two seasons and impressed with two appearances in the Champ Car Atlantic Championship late this season, completed two days of testing with DPR at the test circuit on October 31 and November 1.

Patrizi became the first Australian to drive a GP2 car at his initial test with DPR at Paul Ricard on October 3-4 and was invited back by DPR Team Principal David Price for the second segment of off-season testing.

Patrizi again acquitted himself exceptionally well over the two days, learning from the DPR engineers and pushing hard over long runs. Getting the most out of a new set of tyres to set a qualifying-style lap still challenged the 22-year-old, however the DPR team was very impressed with Patrizi's feedback and ability to set consistently competitive times over long runs.

The Kalgoorlie-born driver who now lives in Perth, Western Australia lowered his best time in a GP2 car around the Paul Ricard circuit over the two days and by the end of the the second day his total of laps completed in a GP2 car was over 250 over his four days of testing recently.

"This second GP2 test with David Price Racing is another significant achievement for me and my motorsport career," said Patrizi.

"We came away with a better result and a better lap time and continued to be consistent over long runs.

"The GP2 Series is one of the most competitive championships in the world and I've had a lot to learn to come to grips with these cars. These tests were all about getting used to the power and capability of these cars.

"I still need to find more time out of new tyres. David Price (DPR Team Principal) told me right from the start that getting a fast lap on new tyres is the hardest thing about GP2 because you only have one lap at it.

"I was consistent over long runs and the times and data in that area was very good, unfortunately we didn't get the best out of the car over one lap on new tyres, but I'm still very happy with what I achieved.

"With very little experience in high horsepower open-wheel cars I wasn't able to match the front running guys over one flying lap but with a bit more experience I know that I'll come to grips with it and put myself up the timesheets a bit more.

"I've really got to thank the DPR team for a fantastic four days. It's been a great opportunity and they have taught me a lot. It's all been very beneficial and the GP2 cars are simply awesome to drive."
