Timo Glock snatched his first GP2 series victory at the circuit Nevers Magny-Cours in France, where Alexandre Premat and José María López filled the podium places of race one of the weekend.
The German started from second place and was able to grab the lead when López made a stop on lap ten and suffered problems with a tyre change that put the Argentinean in tenth place after that.
From that point, Glock managed to keep the iSport International car on the racetrack to eventually take the chequered flag 5.988 over Premat.
"The car was nervous, but pretty good. I saved the rear tyres and could push at the end. Lewis has shown you can win from eighth on the grid, so I have nothing to lose tomorrow. I'm here to win", Glock stated.
Premat had a steady pace that had a good reward in his home weekend after a hard qualifying session in seventh place.
"It was a really good race and I had a great start. The car was really hard to drive, so I decided to save the car and drive for the championship. I'm just pissed off I couldn't give the French fans a win today", Premat said.
Argentine driver López used all the track to advance places and had his reward by taking his second podium of the season, although his aim today was the victory.
"My car was very good. We had a problem in the pitstop but it's nobody's fault. Nelson and Giorgio were very fair with me today, and I think we have a lot to be confident about for tomorrow", López mentioned.
Point places had Nelson A. Piquet in fourth pace, followed by his teammate, Alexandre Negrao, and Giorgio Pantano. Lucas Di Grassi took seventh, right ahead of Ferdinando Monfardini who ended up eighth today as the polesitter for tomorrow`s sprint race.
Standings leader Lewis Hamilton had a day to forget. Adam Carroll and Hamilton were battling for fifth when Hamilton carried just a touch too much speed into the Adelaide hairpin and clattered the back of Carroll's car. They would both be in for new wings and their races were effectively run and ART Grand Prix` driver eventually finished in 19th, a lap from the winner.
