Alexandre Prémat has taken pole position for tomorrow's feature GP2 series race at Magny Cours. The French ART Grand Prix driver wowed his home crowd with a lap of 1:25.132 to head the field. The two points he collects for pole position elevate him to eighth place in the drivers' standings and moves his ART Grand Prix team to within three points of second-placed Super Nova International in the teams' championship.
In a session of little incident it was Super Nova International's Adam Carroll who was the early pace-setter on a 1:25.525. Adam was unable to improve on his early pace, but his laptime was still good enough for fifth position. He will line up tomorrow with fellow championship protagonists Heikki Kovalainen and Scott Speed surrounding him in fourth and sixth places respectively.
A great day for the ART Grand Prix team was topped off as Nico Rosberg, who had been fastest in this morning's Free Practice session, took third position on the grid, behind GP2 series race- winner Jose Maria Lopez. With the first three drivers split by just one tenth of a second, and the top twelve by just a single second, there are likely to be fireworks at the start of tomorrow's 41-lap race, which will start at 14.45, local time.
1st Alexandre Premat ART Grand Prix.1:25.132 "I think this is a good pole position because when I put on my first set of tyres I did the fastest time, and then when I put on my second set I was four tenths faster even with a mistake, so I am very happy and very confident for tomorrow afternoon. I hope to win tomorrow in front of my public and at my home Grand Prix."
2nd Jose Maria Lopez DAMS.1:25.209 +0.077 "I'm quite happy we've made good progress and it looks as though the car is quite good, in a good direction. We'll see tomorrow our problem has been in the races a little bit in the past, but I think we've made good progress and it should definitely be good for the race tomorrow."
3rd Nico Rosberg ART Grand Prix.1:25.245 +0.113 "I'm quite happy, although it's not always the best to be behind your team-mate! But these things happen and I'm quite happy to be in third I had a bit of traffic on my second quick lap, which is a shame, but we'll see what happens tomorrow in the race"
