Today's Feature Race at Magny Cours did not go the way that Javier had hoped, starting from 23rd place on the grid following on from his disappointing qualifying yesterday, a direct result of the accident he suffered in free practice, he could finish no higher than 13th.
Javi made a good start and was running in 20th place at the end of the first lap chasing Parente who was running just ahead. Unfortunately for Javi he lost a few places on the second lap falling to 23rd and was now following Soucek who was 0.5 seconds ahead. The Racing Engineering team went for an early pitstop strategy and on lap 7 Javi made his mandatory stop swiftly resuming the race.
Javi was now lying in 20th place and he began a race long battle with Soucek as the pair of them pulled away from Valles. The young Spaniard slowly began to move up the field as several of the drivers ahead suffered various problems, by lap 24 he was 17th and four laps later he was 16th.
Lap 29 saw Javi involved in an intense battle with Buurman, Rodriguez and Soucek, the fight continued over the next nine laps and on lap 38 all four drivers were very close as they entered the Adelaide hairpin. As the cars continued on the lap Soucek ran wide and Javi tried to overtake but as Soucek regained the track he made light contact with Javi's nose forcing the Racing Engineering driver to back off.
For the next three laps to the chequered flag Javi continued to try and find a way past Soucek but without success and he finished in 13th place.
For tomorrow's Sprint Race Javi will be hoping his car can be returned to the setup he enjoyed on Friday morning so that he can push hard and try and get into a points scoring position.
Javier Villa own words: "Today the race didn't go as expected, and the worse thing is that we don't know what's happening. We have got a lot of problems, sometimes we are very fast, like in testing or yesterday in free practice, other times we are quite slow and we really don't know why. It's something we have to find out pretty soon as the races follow each other very quickly and the season finishes before you even notice it! Today we were a bit better than yesterday in qualifying but we lack still something like nine tenths and if tomorrow things continue like this we won't have any chance."
