The Direxiv Motorsport drivers Clivio Piccione and Olivier Pla had mixed fortunes in race one at Magny Cours, with Piccione producing a charging drive to rise from 22nd on the grid to take eighth place and a point for Durango, while David Price Racing's Pla retired after spinning.
Clivio Piccione, Durango Racing Team:
8th position: 1:29.373
"I made a great start and took a lot of places at the hairpin by driving around the outside. I was pushing really hard before the team brought me in for my pitstop on lap eight. After this I was chasing Viso when the Safety Car came out. I made a really strong restart and went around the outside at the hairpin again, passing three cars, which took me into P8. The tyres were so warn by the end, the final few laps were really tough. It is a great result and means I start on pole tomorrow. I need to push really hard again and hopefully it will be a repeat of Nurburgring!"
Olivier Pla, David Price Racing:
DNF: 15 laps
"I made an okay start, but Juan Cruz Alvarez just drove into me at the first corner. After that the steering was bent and the car was really hard to drive. The spin was my mistake - I took too much kerb going through the chicane. It's a really disappointing result for me."
Misato Haga, President and CEO, Direxiv Motorsport: "This is a fantastic result for Clivio from 22nd to 8th and to start tomorrow from pole position, he did a great job. It is a shame for Olivier as his car was competitive but the incident at the first corner damaged his steering which ultimately ended his chances today."
