The Direxiv Motorsport drivers Clivio Piccione and Olivier Pla were out of luck in the second GP2 race at Magny Cours. Piccione started from pole position, but fading brakes meant he was unable to keep pace with the leaders and following a mid-race pit stop, the Durango ace finished 19th. David Price Racing's Olivier Pla drove a strong, aggressive race, rising from 22nd on the grid to run as high as eighth. But on the last lap, at the final corner, he was punted into a spin by Ernesto Viso, which dropped him to ninth.
Olivier Pla, David Price Racing: "To go from 22nd to ninth shows that the car wasn't bad at all. Because we started so far back we tried some new things and they appear to have worked. This has given me confidence that we can be competitive in Silverstone."
Clivio Piccione, Durango Racing Team: "I had a problem with the brakes, which meant I kept locking up and made the car very hard to drive. The lock ups resulted in the tyres getting flat- spotted and I had to pit for a fresh set before one of them exploded. We've been in trouble here all weekend and never really got on top of the problem, so to come away with a point is a good result. I'm looking forward to Silverstone where hopefully we will be more competitive."
Misato Haga, President and CEO, Direxiv Motorsport: "Clivio has been plagued by problems all weekend, it was a shame for him that he was unable to convert his first pole position. Olivier drove a strong and solid race pulling up numerous positions through the field, so hopefully this bodes well for him at Silverstone."
NOTE: Clivio was subsequently disqualified for changing his tyres.
