I arrived in Magny Cours, very motivated after the fantastic Paul Ricard test where I had set some of the fastest times. It was suprisingly cold at Magny Cours, just 19 degrees Centigrade. After the Friday morning session where i was quickest, my goal was to qualify in the top three or at the worst on the front two rows. There was still a bit of work to do because the car was under-steering a bit. The half hour of qualifying here is much more important than usual because it is hard to overtake on this Magny Cours track. I was feeling confident. I climbed to third fastest time after six laps. Then I came back to the pits. I had some problems with my first set of tyres as there was not a lot of grip. In the final few minutes I had a clear lap and i went second quickest. A great front row again for the start of the race was my goal and i did it so i was very happy.
I knew that I would need a good start to take the lead. Surprisingly, my race went nowhere. I started strongly and I was already along side Timo Glock (iSport International) Glock but suddenly just after the start, I found myself flying off in the air, and I could not control the car anymore after my team mate and I had contact. That was incredibly frustrating beacuse before the race we had discussed that I would keep to my line to be in better shape for the first corner, so i was suprised that Timo changed his line so quickly to the inside without seeing me. It destroyed the team's incredibly hard work and robbed us of a potentially great result and i'm very sorry for that, but it was impossible for me to avoid.
In the second race I started 22nd. The car was very strong again and I showed that by setting the fastest lap. The team is still in the lead of the championship. Now I need to focus on next weekend and make up for this with a strong result at Silverstone.
