VALERIO NINTH IN ISTANBUL QUALIFYING
Scuderia Coloni closed the Istanbul GP2 Main Series qualifying session with Alberto Valerio in 9th position and Vladimir Arabadzhiev 22nd. On the Istanbul Park track, the two Scuderia Coloni cars were performing well, but had to face some unexpected odds.
Valerio started qualifying with the right pace and a lot of determination, and he was fifth after all the drivers used their first set of new tyres, just 3 tenths off pole position. So everything was set for qualifying in the two front rows, but with the second set of tyres the Brazilian made a mistake in the first sector of the only traffic-free lap he had. He didn't improve his time, so tomorrow he will start from 5th row, behind Charles Pic and ahead of Luiz Razia.
Meanwhile Arabadzhiev's first try was ruined by one of the Arden drivers who closed the line suddenly, forcing the Bulgarian driver into a spin. Vladimir's engine was off, but he managed to restart it and come back to the its. He had just the time for one flying lap but he was right behind Valerio when the brazilian did the mistake, and he was hampered as well.
Paolo Coloni: "We are not really satisfied about this result because in his first try Alberto showed he had the potential to stay in front. Unluckily he did a mistake, but we shouldn't be too worried about this because Istanbul offers some overtaking spots. Also Vladimir was unlucky, and he was really good in restarting the engine after the spin. Exactly as Alberto he didn't manage to take full advantage from the new tyres, but this means that tomorrow we will have better rubber. Furthermore, here the temperatures are really hot and both cars and drivers will be deeply stressed, so anything can happen and we'll be ready to catch any good opportunity".
