Ocean Racing Technology in the top ten...
...after starting from the back of the grid!
The 5th and 6th races of the GP2 Main Series, which were disputed in Turkey last weekend, saw the Championship's Portuguese team finish in the top ten. Max Chilton was knocking on the door of a points scoring finish with a ninth place in the first race while crossing the line in eleventh place in race two.
The winner of the second race in Barcelona, Fabio Leimer, encountered difficulties throughout the weekend as shown by his 13th and 15th place finishes, results that don't pay any credit to his potential or the teams.
The Turkish layout is one of most difficult to on the calendar and it proved to be a genuine trap for the Ocean Racing Technology drivers who suffered while trying to adapt to the track conditions. After a complicated start, Max and Fabio fell down to 20th and 23rd positions, however they never gave up and fought back to 9th and 13th. "We did not have a chance at the beginning and that forced us to fight in order to move up the field but by the time we reached the leaders points were out of our reach," explained Max Chilton, "I was on the 5th row of the grid for the second race but I found myself 17th just a few meters after the start. I fought well and I did not spare any effort working my way back to 11th place."
For Fabio Leimer, the Istanbul weekend went from bad to worse... "We did not succeed in finding the best set up and a bad position on the starting grid paves the way for the rest of the weekend. Starting 21st, was all the more complicated. This was not our weekend but we know that we are competitive and it is necessary to continue working in order to find our place with the leaders," declared Fabio Leimer.
The 7th and 8th races of the GP2 Main Series will take place in Valencia from June 25 to 27.
